Trashigang

Trashigang lies in the extreme eastern part of Bhutan and the district is a prominent seat of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche the author of What Makes You Not a Buddhist and Not for Happiness. Rangjung Woesel Chhoeling in the district is a Tibetan blueprint monastery which was founded by his younger brother Dungse Garab Rinpoche. The district is also an excellent base for trekking into Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary which is one of Bhutan’s protected area. Sanctuary is also a home for the people of Merak and Sakten. To experience authentic ethnic group of nomadic yak herders this dzongkhag is a great place to be.

Getting to Trashigang


Trashigang is located at approximately 8 hours drive from Bumthang which is 246.3 km via Bumthang - Ura Hwy. Travelers can also fly to Trashigang from Paro International Airport to Yongphulla Domestic airport in Trashigang which takes approximately 1 hour.
