Druk Wangyel Festival takes place on 13th December annually, the date on which His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo personally led operations against Indian insurgent forces residing in southern Bhutan in 2003, when the peace parley failed. The festival is a tribute to the wise leadership of the 4th King and the Royal Bhutan Army for safeguarding the country. The festival is commissioned under the vision and patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. The uniqueness of this festival is that it is performed by the Royal Bhutan Army rather than monks or laypeople. Festival dates on 13th December.
